How I started...
My name is Kirsty Turner, I had my own amazing Hypnobirth back in 2007. My son, Freddie was born after a long 23 hours.... and I knew life would never be the same again.
I was petrified of giving birth, the fear nearly consumed me and I knew that I had to do something about it, afterall, my baby needed to come out some how and a ceasarean wasn't an option. I stumbled across Hypnobirthing when I lived down in Brighton and so I embarked upon a course.
What I learned resonated deeply, and I knew that instinctively I was capable of birthing. I refused to believe my body would fail me, especially as this was what I was designed to do.
My planned homebirth was going perfectly, I was calm, comfortable and in 'The zone'. However, my labour was rudely interrupted by the fact there were no midwives available to come out to me, and so I was forced to make a journey to the hospital. I had reached 8cm with no pain, but upon arrival I stopped my labour. What I didn't understand was that if a woman doesn't feel safe in her birthing environment, labour will stop and instinct takes over to protect her unborn baby.
Freddie was eventually born after restarting my labour artificially, and even though it wasn't my perfect birth, I felt empowered and most of all... informed. All the decisions I made were mine, and so I came away feeling very positive about my experience and wanting to tell the world about Hypnobirthing!
